A new trend in the mixology world is using smoke as an ingredient in cocktails. Some bartenders burn different herbs and hold a glass over it to season it, while others infuse an already-made cocktail with smoke through a tube. Other ways of creating a smokey cocktail is to use mezcal or scotch.

Ilegal Mezcal was featured at a gallery event at the White Box in SoHo this past week. The theme of the evening was “Outlaws,” and the music, art, and drinks were reflective of this (read Ilegal’s backstory to learn about some real outlaws). Ilegal’s very handsome Fred Antonacci was on hand to serve out Ilegal and his witty banter to the crowd.
